We recently got new deck furniture and this has become a restful spot for us. Its great in the morning and late evening because it is shady. We can also see the hummingbird feeders from here. The perfect place to read and relax!

WE enjoyed a beautiful snowy day yesterday, today the most of it had melted away. NOW, im ready for spring. I did get to catch the red-headed woodpecker helping the cardinal eat the birdseed we had scattered on the ground. I just couldnt get a very clear shot of him. IN TEXAS...and it is very bittersweet. Even though I am excited about moving and the new opportunities and friends, I will miss Texas. Something about this state gets into your blood, makes you proud you live here and makes you want to stay here forever! I have enjoyed the city atmostphere of the metroplex, and the countryside of the outlying area. Except for the beach, there is something here within a short distance for everyone, shopping, eating, entertainment....you name it, you can probably find it. I will always count myself proud to have been a Texan even just for a while.

Had a fun night last night with DD. We all went to the Saltgrass steakhouse for dinner...BOY have prices gone up in the last couple of weeks! But it was yummy! Then we dropped DH off at home and went to see Nights in Rodanthe....TEAR JERKER...
Every time DD and I read another Nicholas Sparks book we say...NO MORE....But he's a Carolina boy (former drug rep where I used to live) and he does write an amazing story, even if it is ALWAYS an unhappy ending.....

In a couple of days we should have a firm decision about moving to Virginia. Texas has been a great place to live and I will always love it, but I SO miss the four seasons, even winter. Virginia Weekend

Had a pleasant weekend trip to Virginia. The cabin on the lake was SO cute and just a short walk down to the water's edge. We also strolled the streets of Clarksville, including the cemetary (pic of a grave with the tree growing around it) What can I say, we love history, seeing all the old tombstones and the military markers.....

My husband and I made a quick mall run Friday night and I couldnt believe that some of the stores were already decorated for Christmas! JC Penney had stocking stuffers and all sorts of holiday items out. The scarves and gloves were bad enough on this 98degree day but the Christmas decorations seemed a little premature!! Especially since summer in Texas doesnt really end until late October.

While watching the dog whisperer marathon today, I saw a few Jack Russells on the show. Of course the one JRT was totally neurotic over the recliner...Ceasar talked about how little dogs are so hard to manage because they can get "under" things. I think it comes from their hunting instinct where they have been known to hide in a hole for days waiting to catch their prey. Our JRT is truly a nutcase, but she's smart and sweet and fun, and has totally trained her people to her needs...Ceasar would not be happy with us Im sure. The key to these dogs is EXERCISE...so I was motivated by Ceasar to take Princess around the block 4 times!! It really does make her sleep better...Here she is with her Bible and checkbook, off to rescue her human from college nightmares! DD wishes they would allow pets, but unfortunately Princess has to stay here!

Well, I should say polish my toenails or pluck my eyebrows, but I think Im going to curl up with my Stampin UP catalog and make a wish list. I got my catalog 2 weeks ago, but have only had the chance to skim thru it. I ordered the new scallop punch, and I cant wait to get it. I have been cruising Targets thru the Dallas Fort Worth area for months looking for the elusive threading water punch and couldnt find it.
OF COURSE the day AFTER I ordered the SU one, I saw the TW punch at Michael's....Well, it can just stay on the shelf, I think I will like the one without the holes better!

Pink Sketches

I finished a LO for the Pink Sketch #2. The pics are my DD getting her graduation gift from me and DH. SHe won the State of Texas award for an article she wrote about her Grandmother's Alzheimer's. So we framed the medal, article and my Mom's picture together as her present. She was so touched she actually cried. SHe loved being the newspaper co-editor, but winning for this article was such a special thing for her.

I did finish a new LO last night of my DD's grad pics....Sketch on pag 72 of the DW recipe Book...(love it)

She finally seems to be settled down into her dorm room with no major roomate squabbles...Last week she called to report that the suite-mate was drinking HER milk. My child, nicknamed the Milk Monster, does not take kindly to someone else touching her gallon...It may be necessary in a crisis. Needless to say that roommate has been grocery shopping and bought her OWN milk. Now if the other Roomie would quit taking such LONG showers!!

My youngest has flown the coop, leaving me and DH with an empty nest. She seems to be excited, yet sad with the big adjustment. Im going thru bits of grief I guess, sad at times, but happy to see the possibilities in front of her and me as well...I hope this week to get back in the scrapping/cardmaking groove!

A little Nostalgic Today...

My friend Pat has a challenge on her blog this month to scrap the first song you remember knowing all the words too. For me it was Mr Postman....Of course it's a simple, catchy tune that anyone could sing. So I started investigating in preparation for scrapping this page. I couldnt even remember who sang this. Along the way I found that the song I knew was the 3rd recording of the song, done by the Carpenters...So of course that brought to mind all the other great songs I remember from this awesome duo and the sad story that goes along with it. I had to add couple of their songs to my blog.... Im sure I wont be able to leave them here very long, it makes me feel sad just to hear them. I couldnt find their version of Mr Postman to add to my playlist...So just sing it in your head, like I will be doing today! ETA, Im going to add the Beatles version of the song...The carpenters did it in 1974 when I was in 3rd grade so do the math, you may be like Monica and not remember this!

College Shopping...

My youngest DD and I have been shopping for some COLLEGE DORM supplies, fun, but sad for me also. The basic linens and bedding were easy, but our biggest problem is going to be DOWNSIZING. Im not sure how she is going to manage living in such a small space with several other girls...It will definitely be a good life lesson!!

Here is her bedding, I thought it was pretty cute....WOuld look good on a Scrapbook page or card huh!

I was inspired to use cardboard by a LO done by fellow scrapper Kim, For the background of this card I used MM paint, Stickles on the bazzill flower.

Hard to believe that 18 years ago tomorrow, my youngest was born. She was born in the military hospital in Ft. Lewis Washington, in the old building that didnt even have airconditioning! I remember being in the ward, with the curtains blowing in the breeze. After about 6 hours in the nursery your baby was given to you with occasional reminders to feed the baby. Needless to say, not much attention given to those moms' who didnt have complications. Good memories though!

10 years ago I was taking care of my dd's then 8and 13..only beginning to learn the joys of parenting a teenager! I was already working in home health, paying on our first mortage!

Five things to do today
1. Work
2. wash the car
3. Do some laundry
4. Attend/HOST the pizza party for Sadie's birthday tonight at our local Italian place....Up to 20 teenagers possible!!!!

I did get a card made last night. My mojo has been MIA for several days.
This is based on the 2sketches4you sketch from this past week. I didnt post to that thread because the contest ended today. Such awesome work over there, Im almost embarrassed to post mine anyway! This sympathy card goes to one of my cyberfriends. TFL.

Caardvark Challenge

Ive been cruising card blogs and came across a mention of Caardvarks...What wonderful inspiration there!
I felt the pink calling to me, so here is the result...The ribbon really is pale pink, scan is white....I used DCVW scraps and stamps from SU. Misc Cardstock and ribbon.
I would have taken a photo of the card...BUT my camera is packed to go with me to Myrtle Beach tomorrow!!!

I had to make some thank you cards in bulk for DD's graduation gifts.
I used her school colors and a little bit of sparkle on the ribbon. They are rather simple, but since I had to make several I wanted it to be quick. The tab punch is from SU, used cobalt blue for the stamp. Misc ribbon and cardstock.

Thanks Laura for the wonderful sketch. The paperclip bookmark is an idea from my StampinUP consultant, but Ive used it over and over. Kids esp love these bookmarks.
The pp is SEI..and I cut the glittery butterfly for the bookmark out of the pp. I used the SU scallop punch and glittered the edges with pink stickels. Misc ribbon and cardstock. Thanks for taking a look!

Day two on the Blog

Im beginning to understand this somewhat....but still have not figured out how to customize my blog.

I mainly want to use this as a place to display my "scraps" of art. There are so many fun blogs out there with challenges, promotions, etc that I would really like to have a chance to join in.

So I will continue to work on it and maybe figure it out!

I decided that I would just take the plunge and dive on into the blogging thing!
It will probably take me days to figure out how to manage this but at least it's a start.
My heading is SO original...Maybe I can think of something better later!

I guess we will call this the beginning of my Empty nest adventure!
